Welcome to my Web site. My name is Ron Donoughe and I'm a regional painter based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Most of my work is painted on location here in the western part of the state. It is the region I know best and I feel a duty to record it. You may be surprised by the variety of subjects I paint. Everything from steel mills to chickens. It is not the subject that excites me as much as the light and shadow on the subject. In fact I consider light and shadow my real inspiration. This allows me to move freely from the city to industry to farm fields. Could be that I have a short attention span? Maybe, but I think the contrast between locations can keep things fresh. Check it out for yourself and if you have any questions please contact me. It is nice to know people actually visited the site.

A note about pricing and availability
Most paintings you see on this web site are at my studio. However some paintings are sent to juried exhibitions, a few are on loan to the American Embassies in the Republic of Slovak, some may be in various galleries or musem shows and some may be sold. It is best to contact me to get information about availability.

What is Plein Air painting?
Simply stated it is painting directly from life. It comes from the French phrase, "en plein aire" meaning in the open air.
